I have been a divorce and family law attorney and mediator in Colorado since 2001. For the past four years, I have focused exclusively on mediation and arbitration. My legal experience is of great value in the mediation process, as I can offer tools for reaching settlement terms that will likely be approved by the court.
If you are self-represented, I can provide guidance for the entire divorce process, and assist you with preparation of the required court forms needed for divorce and other related domestic relations proceedings.
"Alice has mediated some of my most difficult cases, and brings patience, kindness, focus and realism to the process in a way that most mediators don’t. Her experience as a litigator handling domestic relations cases is an asset in helping parties to settle some of the most difficult and important issues in their life.” Boulder Family Law Attorney
"Alice has a special and unique mix of heart, skill, and efficacy as a mediator. She knows the law and how the courts and other professionals (child experts, etc) will likely treat family law issues. She is an asset to resolving any family law dispute!" Boulder Family Law Attorney
"Alice expertly explained the Colorado divorce process and what the realities are. She was extremely thorough and genuinely sympathetic to both of us, and made sure we were both happy with the settlement. It could have cost us thousands more in Attorney fees if not for her amazing conflict resolution expertise." Erie Divorce
"Alice was extremely helpful explaining what the family court expected. Alice's skills helped my ex-husband-to-be and I stay focused on our daughter's well-being instead of fighting to get a better deal. We used Alice's services again when we needed to renegotiate the spousal support agreement and parenting plan. I am grateful that Alice made the process as easy as possible in a difficult time." Lafayette Divorce
"Whenever there was an impasse, Alice was able to steer us around the obstacle and get us moving again. She was friendly, fair and balanced, yet firm when she needed to be. She helped us move from a challenging set of differences to mutual agreement in a few short sessions." Boulder Divorce
"Alice is a great family law mediator. I have mediated numerous cases with her, and not only does she know the law, but she’s smart and compassionate. Alice does a great job of listening and really connecting with the parties. She regularly reaches a fair settlement in my cases, even with the most challenging of parties. I highly recommend working with Alice!" Boulder Family Law Attorney
As the third family member of four generations of lawyers, I grew up learning about the law from a very young age, working in my father's law office in high school, and after college, becoming first a paralegal and then a lawyer.
I have participated in many trainings related to mediation and family law, and I regularly attend conferences to stay up-to-date on the new laws and trends in domestic relations. Since retiring my law practice in 2013, and focusing exclusively on family law mediation and arbitration, I have gained a deeper appreciation of the benefits of resolving domestic relations issues outside the courtroom.
Mediation is extremely useful and cost-effective in family law matters. I am passionate about helping people resolve their differences in this setting because it provides a forum for more civil and respectful solutions related to children and to property division.
My approach to mediation is to be a good listener, offer "straight talk" when needed, and work towards settlement efficiently and effectively . With my many years as a practicing family law attorney, I bring to the table my wisdom and general knowledge about the process as well as my creative problem-solving skills. I am experienced with complex custody, maintenance, and property division issues in mediation.
I am a member of the Boulder Bar Association, and current President of the Boulder Inter-Disciplinary Committee (BIDC) Board of Directors, an educational organization for judges, attorneys, mediators, mental health professionals and social workers involved in the divorce and custody process. I am serving my 5th year on the BIDC board. I am a past long-time member of the Colorado Bar Association and Southwest Colorado Bar Association.
As part of my commitment to offering volunteer legal work for those in need, I have given many hours to Jeffco Mediation Services, and continue to volunteer at Colorado Legal Services, University of Colorado Family Law Clinic, and Ask-A-Lawyer program at Boulder County Courthouse.
